How to Stew Tomatoes

Step by Step Instructions
Gather the tomatoes and place them in a pot. You can choose to cut them in half or leave them whole, as either one will work to stew the tomatoes. You will need to add a small amount of water to the bottom of the pot. Tomatoes take time to leak their juices and begin to stew, so adding some water in the bottom of the pot will ensure that they do not burn.
Once you have added the water, cover the pot with a lid, and turn the stove on. Within 20 or 30 minutes, the pot should be full of tomato juice, which will be more than enough liquid in which to stew the tomatoes. Once the tomato juice has filled the pot, lower the flame of the stove to set the pot boiling on a low heat. This will allow you to continue stewing the tomatoes without the risk of burning them.
You may find that, by adding a few cloves of garlic and half an onion to the tomatoes as they first begin to stew, you can create sauce of stewed tomatoes that is flavorful and delicious. Once the tomatoes have begun to stew and the juice begins to boil, add some salt, pepper, and a pinch of green herbs like parsley, oregano, basil, or thyme, according to your preferences.
Once the tomatoes are stewed, simply scoop them from the pot, and store them in any containers you have available. You can blend the stewed tomatoes to give you quick tomato sauce, or you can freeze or refrigerate the stewed tomatoes whole.
