Gluten-Free Soup Ideas

Soup does not have to contain gluten, but if you are making some for someone who is gluten-intolerant, you need to know which ingredients to avoid. Rye, wheat and barley should be avoided, as well as malt and malt vinegar which are made from barley. Beer, imitation seafood or meat, bouillon, sauces, pasta and seasoned foods should also be avoided unless the label says they are gluten-free. So if you are making soup, use homemade bouillon or a gluten-free bouillon cube instead of the regular kind, else you might inadvertently produce something which contains gluten.

Soups without Gluten

Many canned soups contain gluten in the form of wheat or thickeners, which is why making your own is best. Something else you should know is if a product contains less than 20 parts per million of gluten, it can be labeled ‘gluten-free’ so that tiny trace of gluten might be something you want to avoid. Making your own soups without gluten means you can have tasty soup and stews, as well as peace of mind, knowing the recipe is indeed gluten-free. Pea and pumpkin soup, white bean and cabbage soup, tilapia fish stew, and pumpkin soup with apple are just some of the gluten-free dishes you could make and enjoy.
