Ground Beef Soup

Beef Soup with Ground Beef

You do not have to use a big piece of steak to make beef soup. Instead, why not use ground beef? The beef can be browned and then added to the soup to bulk it out, or you can shape the ground beef into meatballs and cook those in the soup or cook them separately then add them to the soup. Ground beef can usually be swapped for half beef/half pork, or you can use ground pork, ground turkey, ground chicken, or ground lamb. It depends on the recipe but such substitutions are usually fine. Ground beef gives soup a nice, bold, meaty flavor, and it is often used in Mexican or Tex-Mex style soups. The soup might be made with beef stock or another variety could be used.

Ground Beef Soup Ideas

If you want to make a slow-cooked soup, consider making a crockpot recipe such as our ground beef soup with red bell pepper. The beef should be browned first, so you can drain off the grease, then everything goes into the crockpot and the soup slow-cooks all day. This is only one option of course, and there are other ways to make ground beef soup, such as on the stove or even in a pressure cooker. Perhaps a spicy soup sounds good to you, and you can choose from Indian or Thai spices, think about making something with chilies, perhaps in a Mexican style, or how about making a Chinese ground beef soup with ingredients like ginger and soy sauce? Ground beef is highly versatile.
